Tuesday Travels to Rocky Mountain National Park

img_5824My husband and I lived in Denver for several months in 1969 while he was stationed at the Air Force base there, then returned once with our three kids in 1991 so they could see the Rockies and have a snowball fight in July. Last month we flew into Denver then drove a rental car west to visit Winding River Resort which is right outside the Rocky Mountain National Forest. This pic shows us driving toward the mountains which kept getting growing larger and larger.

We stopped at a pull-off and another UK grad took our picture with the mountains in theimg_5840background. Then we drove on to the Resort where some of our best friends have worked for the past eight years. They work on the ranch during the months when it is too hot to work in KY or LA. We arrived at the ranch a little after noon, so went to eat lunch at a little restaurant in Grand Lake, CO, then Chester went to see what Mark was working on, and I went to their camper where Sandi introduced me to the Resident Burro Sadie who ate her lunch from my hand! img_5845

That night we ate at a restaurant overlooking two lakes, then Chester and I sat around the indoor fireplace and almost nodded off from the warmth and jet lag.  We were happy to be with our friends and to meet some of their friends, too. A great start to our trip. Hope you’ll stop by next week for day 2.img_5870
